I'd like to thank Mark and the others who responded to our plea for help last week when our Westy cut out in Needles,CA...Since the van was running, and only failing very intermittently, we decided to take our chances and continue on home to Colorado. After a couple very brief (>1 sec) cutouts in the first 20 miles out of Needles, the problem went away. Totally. So, not sure what to do about it until it really fails. I'm definitely going to increase the spare part inventory of the van, though. It's pretty comforting to know there's such a knowledgeable Vanagon community out there, especially when so far from home. David PS: One thing I do remember, when it cut out totally and we were coasting downhill, two things brought it back to life: once when I smacked the top of the instrument cluster pretty hard, and again when I stepped on the clutch. Could have been coincidence, though - go figure. |
