I can vouch for homemade devices for cooking being excellent. I made a backpacking oven from a coffee can and two backpacking tent stakes. Simply drill the stakes through the can one inch from the bottom to make a rack. Put the can on the stove grate, put whatever is to be baked in a small pan in the "oven" on the rack. Put a cover (Since I actually carry small aluminum plates for backpacking, I use one of those) on the open top. Remove the item when done and eat it. With this, I can have corn bread, biscuits, even a cobbler.
