This is for those that travel with a laptop and a smart phone (at least for
Android).  Right now, boondocking in Santa Cruz, I have a very good
Internet connection using my Droid X and the laptop.  I'm using a free app
called PdaNet <http://junefabrics.com/android/>
Easy to install (requires a program for the laptop also) and one click to
start.  So, if you travel with a phone that has 3g or 4g service and you
are getting  that sevice on your phone you have access for you laptop.
Great instead of hunting for a Starbucks or MacDonalds to get wifi.  Or if
you have poor wifi service like I did last night at a casino RV park.
