My Droid, with Verizon, will do that, turn itself into a wifi hotspot at the touch of an icon. But to use that feature costs another $10 a month. I mentioned this to the salesman that sold me the Droid a couple of days after I bought it and he pointed me to PdaNet. And again, it works like a champ for me. YMMV
