Hi Finn..
that's pretty odd that it won't reach 75 mph on the level,
even a 7K feet ASL.
I don't especially believe in overheating causing a reduction in power by
itself.
hey ..try this..
take the 14inch wheels off the one van and try them on this 'slow' 89.
also ..
someone has been inside that trans, right ? you said limited slip or
something. Perhaps they raised the gearing too. I have seen a few vanagon
transaxles 'messed up' by raising 3rd and 4th ..
it could be it was fine where the van lived, with modified gearing .
and now at your altitude ..it's an issue.
Consider that possibility.
on the other one..
I go right for the throttle switch. At least 3/4ths of the ones I see are
not making contact at idle.
It's in important input.
And then on from there..
timing, temp sensor, exhaust system etc.
Temp sensors are fairly easy to replace ....try another one.
At the worst it's good to have a spare. Buy the highest quality one you can.
I have good luck with Van Cafe for that.
I forget the name of the company in Ventura ..
sounds like they 'try very hard' to send out good stuff.
Scott
