Splendid idea! Taking the ferry from Nova Scotia in January and then driving 14 hours across the island to get to St. John's is really fun! Especially when the ferry gets stuck in the ice outside North Sidney Harbor, and you can wait for days to go anywhere... The blowing snow crossing the island is really exciting as well. ;-)
