One of those was probably me, I have had two auto transmissions fail within days of having the fluid changed. One was on a company vehicle and the other a Ford F150 I bought used. On both I had no idea what the history was on fluid changes, my guess is I was the first to do it. I didn't have to pay on the company car, and the F150 was covered under warranty, I only paid a $50.00 fee. What I may have/should have said was if I bought a high mileage vehicle with an auto trans and I had no proof of the fluid ever being changed, I'd leave it alone unless there was a problem. The other day I looked at a vehicle with 106K miles, and the Carfax report showed the trans fluid being changed twice in it's history-I wouldn't worry about changing the fluid on that one. I'd also never seen a Carfax report so detailed, it showed every service this car had ever had!
