I have to agree on this one - it treating the old tank is going to cost almost as much as a new tank - then I'd just go new. Not only to save yourself a lot of trouble but also because then there is no question - the tank is new and you should never really have to think about it again.

I got a reseal kit for mine last summer - I thouight that would solve my problems - ultimately it solved some of my problems but I still have issues with water in the tank and while it lasts longer I am still replacing filters more than I would like to. I took my time replacing everything and the tank itself looked to be perfectly fine - well apprently it is not.

So this coming spring or summer I'm just going to replace the tank all together.

As for the filters - I've seen volks do several things a) keep the pre-filter b) switch from the pre-filter to the post pump cannister filter c) run both a pre and a post pump filter.

While I am far from an authority I've not heard of anyone having any problesm with any of these scenarios - although I have read several things where replacing the small plastic square filter with the larger cannister type was a good experience.

Good luck.
