I like RectorSeal #5 for about anything, fluid, gas, whatever, I think Home Depot has it in plumbing now days, else a good plumbing shop.  Let it set a day before putting it in hydraulic service.  The Loctite thread sealant isn't bad stuff but never really sets.  Regular Loctite is always possible as well of course, a bear to get apart later.  RectorSeal is "just right."

So now that I've wasted everyone's time and you're all looking at your
watches saying "cool story, bro", I come to my question: What's the best
thread sealant to use in a situation like this? Anyone have a suggestion
for something I might use to seal up the threads on the galled, buggered,
leaky side?
