When I worked as a natural gas pipeline grunt, Rectorseal(pretty sure it was #5) was all we ever used to seal the service pipe threads into the outside meter. I used to think that stuff was expensive, but ounce for ounce compared to Loctite, it is a great bargain. Like Permatex antisieze, one can will last a lifetime for most of us.....
