Well IF it fit......

Poss. reasons why it hasn't been done:

- cost. This swap would require a custom harness (or skills) and added electronics. - CANBUS (?) - DIY aspect. Fabrication required. - putting a Honda engine in a Vanagon seen as "wrong". (To each their own and I respect that) - worn or failed parts for VVT poss. hard for average shade tree to deal with. (But as your buddy does, swap the engine when the time comes)

Then again, maybe the engine just doesn't fit. ;)
