Hi ,
Neil, Honda's being right hand drive has nothing to do with engine rotation
direction,
however, it does seem logical that the engine rotates the same direction as
the front wheels, in a FWD vehicle with sideways mounted engine.
the Ring & Pinion gears can be built for either direction of rotation.
oe juar in transmission design.
I wonder if you read that or just made it up.;
in fact, 'reverse' R & P gears are now made so you can use a subaru trans in
the back of your vanogon.
sure honda engines are - hopefully stil very long lifed and great power and
reliability ,
just make sure it turns CW.
you may find it interesting that there are 'rotate the other way' kits for
some engines..
such as when you want two marine chrysler V-8's rotating oppostie to each
other in a twin engine inboard layout ...same as the P-38 aircraft having
counter-rotating props ..
the equlize the 'twist under load factor' for the boat or aircraft.
for car engines it's mainly different camshafts.
and of course..
some diesel engines can actually run
backwards accidently ...exhuasting out the intake and intaking from the
exhaust.
more study is order I think.
scott
www.turbovans,

Hi Scott. I'm sure you know this, but one original reason the older
Honda engines rotated CCW: they were installed in RH drive vehicles.
My K series engine rotates CW as does the WBX. Under "VOLKSWAGEN AND PORSCHE
ENGINE ADAPTERS" KEP shows S2000, Prelude 2.2 - 2.3 adaptor plates. An
email would confirm if the bolt patterns were the same for I-VTEC or
VTEC Honda engines.
The VTEC engine swap is common for older Hondas. Heck even for older
Mini's: http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/MT510000/InvDetail.cfm
Parts to adapt the VTEC electrical's to an older Honda are easy to
find.
This image from eBay appears to be my engine:
http://www.saccar.com/images/saccar/Engine_Acc_03_4cyl.JPG
Seller of that engine claims it has 89K miles. Listed at $550 "Buy it Now".
Given my minor revelation that some Honda engines rotate CW, thought
I'd pursue the idea a little and throw what I found out into the ring.
IMO, IF engine dimensions were suitable, it might be a viable option
for the DIY type.
Neil.
