Jim,

The dash does not need to come out. I will not be near my laptop for sometime. So best I can do is describe from memory. Take the top and bottom covers from the ignition switch. Once you see the naked ignition lock system, it will be more apparent. Unless your ignition lock cylinder has been removed before, you will need to drill a small hole on the side of the cylinder barrel to be able to depress the retaining spring on the side of the lock cylinder. The Bentley does describe the spot. No need to be super precise as you only need to be able to stick a tool in there to press that flat spring. Cylinder slides out after.

Hey, I was googling for pics of the lock cylinder and found that someone had written an article in the Samba. It's shown out of the van can be done without removal.
