Here's a Friday topic somewhat related...

One thing that has always plagued us while camping (my wife, me and two
children), is how to get around locally once arriving at a campsite (we
live in Northern Virginia and travel in the East Coast area typically). I
like to set up the campsite and van for the weekend ('camping mode', if you
will); then go see things in the area that isn't walking distance (parks,
local town, etc). Often times, the camping area we set up in is a mile or
two or more from the local activies or sites. Sometimes we can walk to a
shuttle, but not often the case. Catching a ride for 4 isn't practical
(potentially unsafe, too).

The only thoughts that have really come to mind is to tow my utility
trailer with my motorcycle on the back (a 2-seater) and shuttle mom and
kids to the local area - not a great scenario for several reasons. I even
thought about getting a scooter to go along with the motorcyle - mom
doesn't ride, but could handle a scooter). Towing anything with my van,
even something like my utility trailer/motorocyle, has its pros and cons
(strain on van, extra tolls, parking, etc).

Anyone have other ideas or suggestions?
