Over the years I've seen a number of different approaches to the subie conversions. I have dealt with issues for both cooling and the interior heat. A very common problem is the cores getting loaded with road dirt add a little leakage for the dirt to stick and at some point heat output suffers.

A 94 Subaru 2.2 in an '85 Westy and both heaters work great & have for several years.
