Remove the bell housing and check the coupling. There is a stud that holds the shaft extension to the main shaft and a splined coupling that transfers the power. The coupling is held in place with a snap ring. The stud is critical. Get the right part. If the shaft is connected check it for axial play. If the shaft inside the tranny can move in-out then most likely the gear carrier housing is worn and will need to be replaced or machined.

I took the transmission out and noticed that the shaft can be pulled out, though not all the way. I mean the shaft that goes to the clutch. The car drove fine, I did not notice anything wrong othewise. But now, I'm wondering if there is something amiss. Anyone? Daryl? Best to all, Zoltan
