Tires - Only use tires not made by those pesky French, and don't forget to fill them with only German air!


Oil - Use only the brands and grades with VW500 / VW5005 certification. SAE grades are not good enough. 


Transmission Fluid - See oil reference


Filters (all filters) - Use only German brands even though they may actually be (are) stamped out in China or South America.


Spark Plugs - Bosch only

Dear Vanagon List
I have a '90 Vanagon GL w/stock engine and automatic tranny. This weekend I plan on changing the oil and oil filter, flushing and refilling the cooling system, changing fluid in the tranny and putting in a new air cleaner.
I'll also be putting in new spark plugs.  This is to get ready to take the van in for new tires.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what tires, oil, filters, tranny fluid, air cleaner, coolant or spark plugs I should be using? Or should I be asking Ann Landers?
