I have yet to have any luck with any engine oil stop leak. Maybe I wait too
long! However an engine crank or cam lip seal is not related to the design
or operation of a water pump mechanical seal.

Perhaps we should all get after the BarsLeak company and tell them there is
no way their new Rear Main Oil Seal Additive can work.
I mean, they must be lying to us if the post below is all true.
And...of course, one of the 'principles' that leak-reducing additives use is
swelling of seal rubber, or so I would imagine.
re waterboxer head gaskets and leak-reducing additives :
it depends on what failure mode one is thinking of ..
on the common 'leaking outer rubber seal' ...
I don't recommend it ..but I have seen waterboxer engines respond to
Barsleak when the issue is bad;y leaking outer rubber seals ( which are not
'head gaskets' really , in the conventional sense of course ) .
Near as I can tell, the Subaru additive is similar to Barsleak ..
which is actually quite a good product, when used reasonably.
I'm not into 'patching things up' very much ..
but I have seen a waterboxer with very shot outer rubber gaskets go 200
miles to a shop to get worked on ..
with a very, very generous Barsleak treatment ..and it got the job done.
Heck ..
I've had barsleak stop up a radiator ( deer collision event ) hole that was
3/8ths of an inch wide and 5 inches long..
a seam split. Didn't run with the pressure cap tightened of course ....but
it got me home just fine, and prior to the barsleak treatment I was adding
water every 6 minutes.
( The CHP officer loved that ..he pulls up behind me on the freeway
north of Sacrament as I'm putting water in ..I tell him.."I'm fine, I'm
adding water every 6 minutes and I'll be outta here in a second' ..he says
..'uh .....uh ....how far do you have to go ? '...
Just to Marin County I said as I jumped in and took off. )
what fun.
