The one time I used greyhound was with an Outback hood, cross-country. No special container, I simply wrapped it in cardboard with a small amount of padding where the seam met on the front edge; I labeled it well and used strapping tape. It arrived perfectly, and was MUCH less expensive than other methods, so speaking personally, I'd risk it again.
