Subject: What is the wire path for the tach signal?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

This is for the '87 2.1 Auto: Replaced the coil, finally got the van running again (long story, of course) but now the tach is dead. I read through the archives and looked at the wiring diagram in the Bentley but it's not clear to me. I haven't driven the van much since I got it running but I noticed a "power drop out" or hiccup in the engine that makes me think of the description several people have given for Vanagon Syndrome, like a heart skipping a beat. The Hall sensor tested out okay but I'm not convinced that I don't have another problem other than the coil, or maybe the same intermittant problem I had before.

Also: I had a leaking valve gasket, so I replaced them both. There was no standing oil in the starboard head, but there was some in the port head, which is the one from which it was leaking. It wasn't a lot, but the differnce made me wonder if I had a problem in one or the other.

I had to replace the rear exhaust pipe due to cracks, and because some chucklehead PO decided that it'd be a good idea to weld a so-called hitch to the engine carrier bar I had to drop the whole thing just to replace that pipe. Turns out I had three broken engine mounts (!) (thought it was only one) so it had to be done anyway, but I was cussin' fit to make a sailor blush for a while there.

So I've had a lot of "quality time" with my van lately. : /
