See the 6-15-01 11:47 PM post above regarding removing/installing that battery which requires seat & swivel removal. It was found here: http://www.westfalia.org/community/archive/index.php?t-342.html I do believe that it is correct, and that Canadian but not U.S. campers came with the auxiliary battery. I also still am not clear about whether one can simply follow the installation instructions that are published, without upgrading any relays or wires. But thanks for all the comments.
