Finally got around to installing a set of Pioneer TS-A878 87mm (3 1/2") speakers in the front doors. They're smaller than the standard 4" jobbies, but they don't have as deep a profile, so they fit in the door with the replacement power window regulators. At 60W, they're not as powerful as the nicer 4" ones that I had in there, but they're 2-way speakers and a quick listen didn't produce horribly reduced sound quality. These speakers have mounting tabs (unfortunately plastic) that align with wider 4" speakers. This allowed me to mount them behind the doors using the same screws as the stock speaker face plates (removed from the original speakers). At $40 for the set, they're fairly economical, too. I've got 110W pioneer 4" 2-ways mounted in the rear speaker positions, and I think with the addition of a small subwoofer, the van will become a perfectly adequate music hall (at least for my tastes). -Jarrett 89 Westy |
