I had this problem on Bays that I had replaced the door seals on, the new seals were a lot thicker-too thick in fact, to allow the doors to close easily. The reason I got from the vendor that sold them was that they were just like new seals, and VW doors were hard to close when new, and these seals would eventually compress and the doors become easier to close. They did not. I remember VW's new in the showroom from the late 60's on, and yes the doors could be a bit hard to close, but not nearly as hard as these. These seals were just way too thick.
