dear importer
done this twice personally in the last two years ....but do not take hersay
and what my cousins brother did last time in 1974 as the gospel
go to the horses mouth in the usa it is
http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/basic_trade/export_docs/motor_vehicle.xml
and in canada it is ...
i can not argue about what regs have changed in the last few years or not
...
i do know that the actual policies and regulations at the border have not
changed materially since the mid to late 1940s
guidelines and directives issued by the ministers (cananda) office or
secretary (usa) office have been issued ot reflect changes in
circumstantial mandates
side arms issued to canadians was asked for a long long time ago and only
recently came into policy and it is by individual choice ...so your
canadian cbsa person may or may not have a side arm
attitude of the guard is about as arbitrary as the attitude of a dog ...
depends on a great deal and mostly depends on how you smell and look to
them ...
tow successful vehicle imports in the last two years ... with out so much
as a burp ...
and once with a special slip granting 3 month permission so long as i did
not use it as a daily driver ...
had special coaching from RIV in ottawa for that one
best of luck
regards
