one does need to consider which main piipes to use , front to back.
1.. I like the metal ones just fine ...if they can be found in good
condition.
2. the mid-85 and later plastic ones ...have a bad habit of a metal
insert sliding out of the end ....which has been known to lead to fried
engines ...
3. There are numerous stainless steel main pipe sets available.
Starting at around $ 299 I think.
One warning on aftermarket stainless pipes....on one set. ..the
ridge on the end of the pipe that keeps the hose from sliding off ...if
you look at a stock factory made pipe...you'll see the bump is about 1/4
inch from the end, and the bump is smooth . On one set of aftermarket
stainless pipes the bump is right on the end. and very sharp. This cause
the hose to jam on there really, really hard. ...not good at all.
So if buying any aftermarket stainless pipes I suggest checking out that
detail.
( Putting a guys DOHC 2.5 engine conversion together ...we needed to
take a hose back off .....two strong men pulling to get apart had a hard
time getting the hose off ...the guy said 'yeah, if I was in Baja by
myself and had to deal with this I'd be screwed' .)
4. Some people run marine coolant hose all the way from engine to radiator.
