Of course, it is still there, as you already knew.  The whole nitrogen inflation thing is a scam, though most of the technicians at most of the shops offering may not even realize it.  The shop bought a device, convinced customers would go for it.  Since the shop spent money for the device, it has to use it to get its money back.  Sort of like some doctors, and all the unnecessary high tech tests.
