So, I get a private response earlier today from someone here on the list telling me the joke is on me if I let a Westy go so cheap, and this person goes on to say they sold an air cooled Westy with 56K miles for $10,000.00. Great, thats wonderful, I'm happy for you. There are $10,000.00 Westys (and much higher) out there. The one in this Craigslist ad isn't even close. Let me clear the air, I have no problem with someone buying a Westy for cheap and making a profit-I have done it myself. I bought a '75 Westy at the Bug Out in Manassas one year for $1,000.00. I put A LOT of work into it (all myself) and sold it for $6,200.00. I camped one time across from a guy who bought a late model Westy from an older couple for $4,000.00. It was pristine, as close to new as I've ever seen, it was a $10,000.00 Westy. I was happy for him, he found a good deal, I wish I'd have found it I'd have bought it too. What I have never done is drag home a POC and then try to flip it to unsuspecting, unknowing folks. This guy may find some naive young hippie wannabes with more money than brains and get his $4,500.00/3,500.00, what ever it is that he is asking. Then a couple of weeks later it will be on youtube, on the shoulder of a highway somewhere, in flames because a fuel line burst. Good judgement comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgement. I got screwed on my first VW bus purchase many years ago, I guess this one will be someones bad judgement.
