Subject: Full Westy vs Weekender
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

Never knew until recently this was a hotly contested debate here. As the owner of several full Westys and now a Weekender,(pop top) I've gotta say I aint missing the fridge/stove at all, and I like the extra wide back seat and the huge bed it makes. I was kinda missing the sink though. Sooooo, last trip to the junk yard I picked up an ice box/sink cabinet from an early bay. It wasn't in very great shape, and i had to use some of the panels as templates to cut new ones, but it is done and installed. The ice box stuff was pretty trashed, so it is now a storage cabinet/sink. I removed the seat behind the drivers seat and mounted my new cabinet/sink there. I mounted it back far enough that I can still recline the drivers side seat back (important to me at 6'4") I missed the sink because I wear contact lenses, and well, some camp ground bathrooms can be a bit on the skanky side, and I'd rather deal with the lenses and teeth brushing in the van. Oh, one more thing. All my life I've never been able to cut a piece of wood straight-until now. I bought a used table saw at a flea market (from a German guy who loved my Vanagon!) and I don't know why I didn't buy one 30 years ago! Made every panel on my new cabinet straight as an arrow, and even allowed me to duplicate the recessed cuts for the interior panels. So now, as far as I'm concerned, I have the best of both worlds!
