Joy,

I believe you will have to cross back into the US with the car to make it permanent. It has to be reported to US customs 72 hrs in advance that it will be exported permanently and presented to US Customs for export before crossing. They stamp your paperwork, then proceed to Canada Customs. I have imported 8 vehicles from the US now with little problems. (Other than paying too much tax!)

If the vehicle is not North American add 6.1% duty on current value. You might get away without taxes since you have moved, but will not be allowed to sell it for the first 12 months. I can't remember all the rules but you can find them on the government website.

If the car is less than 15 years - go here: http://www.riv.ca/ If the car is older than 15 years: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/roadsafety/safevehicles-importation-index-443.htm

It was my van that came from Scott. It now resides in Ontario.

Jason
