Just an FYI... no such thing as "accepted by US regulators". Manufacturers self certify their vehicles as meeting safety and emissions standards. The do not have to submit squat to "US regulators" unless they get randomly selected, which doesn't happen too often.

Most safety issues come to light via one of two paths: independent reports to NHTSA; and testing by the insurance institute.

EPA issues usually come to light via customer complaints.
