Hi Ya-All ;o)

I was getting ready for a road trip and knew the CV's needed cleaning and re-greasing. 70K miles and I was pretty sure this would be the first time for them.

I guess not the first, because when I crawled under the van the first thing I saw was stripped out allen bolt heads !!!

I immediately scrubbed the operation and just squirted in a tube of CV grease into each boot for the trip ( now, there is a special grease tip for this and I guess I should get one on order.

But, not having one I drilled out the cap on the tube (EP CV grease ) and inserted a piece of 1/4" clear tubing. Worked pretty dern good!

Then I ordered 24 new bolts from Van Cafe. They actually sell them as a kit with 24ea in the kit. There is a torque value for them 30lb as I recall but, I could be way off.

And, over tightening them may largely contribute to stripping the heads and problems for the future with these. Also, keep your wrench square to the head with good strong pressure. (that's what she said??? oops! sorry, Steve Carell made me say it! butt then, it is Friday.... heh heh heh

They have just arrived and I'll tackle the job soon.... soon as it stops raining around here anyway !!! (PNW:o) Wishin' I was in Minot, ND today!

PS: The Hit with the Hammer on the head works Great !!! At least, according to the wife! That's how she Gets My Attention !!! YMMV ;o)

JC...
