I sold my 2001 New Beetle TDI last year with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock. I had to replace the MAF early on ($75), third brake light, window switch more recently ($65), emergency flasher ($35). I replaced the injection pump at 168,000 miles with a good known unit (diesel only wear item). I did replace front suspension bushings back in 2005 as wear items and replaced the shocks with Bilstein HD.

The rest of the car was original down to the clutch and looking great. It's the most reliable car I ever had and I hated selling it.

Chris.
