AND, funny that not all Passats have the problem. Use the correct oil, correct filters, and there is no problem. Turbocharged engines have more specific oil requirements, some seem to ignore it and the consequences get thrown all over VW/Audi's rep. Kind of like dum-dums who claimed Audi 5000s could outpower their own brakes and cause horrific accidents. Foot on gas, not brake, sure it will happen! Karl 2004 Passat 4Motion 1.8T 5-speed, 113K miles and no sludge, AND previously owned FOUR 1.8T-powered Audi A4 Quattros, none with sludge.
