dear vanagoniterites
i thought for sure i would need a new half shaft .. cv joints and all
(clank clank sound like a conventional rear end failure)
so i crawled home at 30 mph tops and actually went to my neighbours
driveway - he has a couple of hoists so i would not find myself completely
adrift if required ...
ran the vanangon up the ramps just to have a look see
dennis haynes recommended a clean and regrease ... :) thnx
but i had to get in there first and fortunately someone told me the name of
the 12 point tri square tool
(i knew what it was just didnt know what to call it)
buddy with hoist lent me his truck so i could run around today and go to
work etc ... (nice pal)
called around this morning and local flaps [lordco] had one set in stock
for 49 $ and i picked up two packs of cv grease too
after i asked what the difference between that and wheel bearing grease is
i looked up benny boys write up on the situation so i could show my pal who
owned the hoist what i had to do (nice iphone pictures)
after work today i slid under with my new tools and marked the uppity side
at both ends
peeled it off and loke dat the dried up mess of grease
repacked
and reclamped boots with ziptie as a stop gap ...
re- tightened half sharf back in place ...
drove off ramps ... drove around for a little and nary a click nor a clank
:)
this weekend we will order new boots etc
me happy for today
and there is sufficient troubles in today
thanks every one who chimed in ...
trouble free motoring is not about not having break downs and stuf to
replace
trouble free motoring is about confidence and knowledge to remedy the
issues as they arrive
trouble free motoring will become for each of us as we gain understanding
of maintenance and on going issues
trouble free motoring comes from knowing there is a community of fellows
who share our common concept of transportation
