Generally the grease does not travel very far beyond the CV itself, so it’s a waste of good grease to add any to the flange itself. I just may see 1 or 2 CV flanges a year believe it or not..And most only have a bit of grease unless the trans oil has diluted with 90 wt from the little cap inside the flange seeping. And it's not a bad idea to clean out the flange area and put a bit of RTV (silicone) around the edges of said little cap.
