Internal problem in the transmission. The 4th and 5th use the same fork, hub and slider so likely a detent is cracking (or gone) or the hub may be breaking ...or some such similar issue that's causing one of the components to "wobble" the shift fork a bit.

I, the shifter, do not have a buzz, but my shift lever does in 4th and 5th gear. I have an 87 Wolfsburg with a Weddle 5 speed (094) transmission. There is no buzz in any other gear except 4th and 5th. If I lay my hand on the gear shift knob the buzz is considerably reduced. Add a pound of pressure, and the buzz disappears. The shift lever, rods, and all the associated parts were replaced with new parts with the new transmission. There are new front and rear bushing for the front and rear shift rods.

I've tried the gear shift lever/linkage adjustment described in Bentley 34.12 twice to no avail. I believe I have done it right.

Any ideas?
