Ralph, I just took a stud-type cap and fitted the metal shield to it (bloody nuisance). I then removed it and fitted a plastic shield. The plastic should eliminate your issues (of course you do still have to make sure the key on the cap is actually in the slot on the distributor body, but should be no harder than a plain cap). The plastic cap snaps on easily from above (covers the whole top with openings for the terminal towers to poke through) and the electrical connection is directly by one of the retaining snaps that hold the cap on, no little braid pigtail. Do it, you'll love it.
