My engine and tranny are together again and will be installed in the van tomorrow. With some help from the list and the archives I resolved most of my confusion; but the biggest confusion was that I didn't recognize the existing o-ring in the flywheel because it had worn down / conformed till it had a completely flat face. I thought the two slots on either side of the o-ring were the groves the o-ring was supposed to fit into. Once I got the old o-ring out, it was obvious which o-ring had to go in to replace it.
