Ah, right - that was the result of testing on oil temps by Dennis Haynes, I believe.

There's a curiosity in Bentley - somewhere it says that as of x (2.1l?) the dipstick was changed so that there was only a half-quart difference between empty and full. I have a notion that they figured out it was a good idea but forgot to implement it, because as far as I know my '89 stick is marked the same as my '84 was.
