When I was driving a badly worn 1.9 a few years back I used straight 60 weight Valvoline Racing Oil. I was afraid to take it out of town, but no buzzers or lights.

Eventually it wore through the thrust bearing and started to hemmorhage through the rear/front(?) main seal. Got all my miles out of that one!
