indeed.. it is standard wisdom these days .. between the marks is ideal. as stated the other day ......the top mark should be called the Never Exceed mark.

in that same vein ..a Legacy subaru EJ22 dipstick has 3 marks. the owner's manual make it clear that the upper mark is the 'never exceed' mark. And the mid-mark is nominal full.
