I've determined the best thing you can do with your oil pressure light is to put a piece of black electrical tape over it and never worry again. Who cares? If it's the sender is at fault you have no problem. If you have no oil pressure your engine is shot anyway. That &*%# glow occasionally or intermittent glowing just will worry you. Get a good 20-50 dinosaur oil and forget about it. If you are really paranoid get a gauge and worry over it. My Alfa Spider shows ZERO oil pressure at idle yet 57 when at anything over like 1200 RPM. I do not worry about that either. That's just the nature of the beast. The satanic coolant gauge is the same way. If it gets towards halfway I turn on the AC (which has been removed) as it manually turns on the radiator fan. If I didn't have AC I'd wire a manual switch to the fan to be able to turn it on when it started to get hot. The temp switch is unreliable. Life with a Vanagon is MUCH easier when you stop caring.
