We are located in South Bend, Indiana and have had many listmembers visit and camp on our 5 acres. If your journey takes you anywhere near us, just give a shout! Would love to get a 1st hand look at that motor.

> Hi Pete; > Oh yeah, it's a sweetheart, I believe you are correct about the motor. FAS has done major mods to the engine to have it handle the differences between the size of the beetle and the westy. Intake and exhaust, new type of carrier for added ground clearance, etc. etc. The program the ECU uses has been completely revamped to take care of codes that don't exist in my camper (ABS or airbags anyone?) and can be downloaded to any competant shop. Jon (owner) has made extensive trips to Germany to get them to give him the base motor he wants for the conversion. Mine is the beta and it has taken longer than expected to get everything right, but Jon won't let me have it until he thinks it is RIGHT. And he is a (kinda, but I like it) pain in the ass perfectionist. > > Also had a bottom job, paint, and a new canvas (PO didn't close it properly and that stain just sticks out), and I am ready to put some miles, smiles and camping time on her. > > I am heading out west end of May and looking forward to mayhaps meeting some of the listees (leaving from MA) on the way. More power, more RPM's, lots of low end torque, no more head gaskets and it's a VOLKSWAGEN engine in a VW. Lotsa mods done by FAS to make that Golf type motor the perfect powerplant for the camper. New AC that works well for you folks still on that thread. > > To the point. I am looking for a new home for the engine that came out of my 87 camper. Appox. 116K. Head gaskets (1st time) done appox. 100K. Ran great before removal and all ports closed up and correct procedures used when removing and storing. It is currently in Harpswell, ME. Looking for $1000, but really have no idea what's reasonable. Feel free to tell me or make an offer. I would really like to see it put back in operation. It was a sweet engine and hard to justify the change, but I am a little tired of leaky head gaskets, third gear (or lower) on mountain highway steeps and the old technology. > > Dave B. > 84.5 Westy > 87 Gen. 5 I4 Westy (almost) >
