That makes sense now, I'd missed the fact that we were talking about a Bus in your case. And yes, I've seen the mounts for a Bus, Fiamma brand, and they are set up to be screwed to the body. BTW, I've seen at least one Vanagon w/Fiamma awning and the gutter mounts also bolted to the body, holes drilled through the bottom part of the bracket where it comes in contact with the body. That was the choice of the owner, he was afraid of whole heavy combination bouncing around and coming loose.
