what I use is what I call 'substitute and bypass' strategy.

if the fuel pump won't run ..I just hot wire it. if that gets me a running engine ...then I know all I have to do is work on the fuel pump wiring circuit.

if you got the FP running by jumpering the relay ... but it still won't run .. some possibilities.. no igntion .. or if there is spark out of the coil wire, but won't run, it's flooeded. wrong ignition timing. injectors not squirting, no injector pulse from ecu to injectors clogged cat or muffler not enough fuel in the tank, blocked or clogged fuel filter, a pump that runs but doesn't really pump. ( what is the fuel pressure ? )

is the distributor in correctly ? one guy managed to get his in backwards so it was 180 out.

firing order ?

Just because the key is on and the ECU is working doesn't mean the FP should run. It only needs to run when the engine is turning. The ECU turns on the FP relay for a second or two when the key is turned on but after that it only runs the FP relay if it thinks the engine is turning. > > Mark > > jesse and monica johnson wrote: >> got it... so if the ecu is not grounding the fuel pump correctly i would not get any fuel pump if i bridge the power relay. so if all grounds are good on ecu which they are this would indicate a bad ecu then?sorry for the confusion.jess >> >>
