The next best thing is being a grandparent! My kids are in their mid 30's and I have one granddaughter. They started camping with us in 1975 at age one when we had a '68 Westy, and continued on through their teen years in our '84. We couldn't have afforded to travel at all without a VW camper, and still can't. They are more excited about the '85 Westy I just bought than I am, maybe because they want to use it too and don't have to fix it! Three generations will be tent and VW camping together this summer for a week!

Ralph, my daughters grew up in westies, all Bays. My daughters as teenagers used to borrow the westie and go camping themselves. It creates memories that they will cherish forever. Teenage daughters are awesome, you just have to allow them some space, and guide them gently when their hearts are broken or they need some advice. My daughters are now an R.N. and a veterinary assistant, and they both say how much they enjoyed their VW adventures with their old man. ;-) Enjoy it while you can; I would make a deal with the devil to be able to go back and have my daughters as 3 and 5 again.
For what it's worth,
Courtney

I'll prefer a 'BORING' camping trip in my Westy over going to work any day!
As for the empty nest, that's alright too. Saw my son graduate boot camp in Great Lakes and last daughter graduates wednesday! Now if only she moves out soon. Looking to traveling lots next year in our 83 Westy to escape the hot humid summer in south Florida.
