Hi.. that is sorta a glitch almost in later vanagons. That one connection at the alternator can keep power from getting where you need it .. and maybe starter will still crank. It's a pretty common failure, that one conenction. On 5/4/2012 4:14 PM, Jack Botts wrote: > " the fuel pump is grounded on the frame right by the fuel pump." While t-shooting a won't start problem yesterday, one of the things I checked was the fuel pump for operation and ground. Bentley says what you said, but on my '86 the FP is isolated from the frame with a rubber block on the bracket. Two wires lead toward the engine compartment. My problem was a broken wire terminal at the alternator (2nd time for that for me).> Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2012 13:43:40 -0700 >> From: scottdaniel@TURBOVANS.COM >> Subject: Re: more information on engine swap/fuel pump woes >> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM >> >> re >> "so if the ecu is not grounding the fuel pump correctly" >> >> there's confusion all right, >> the ECU does not ground the fuel pump. >> the fuel pump is grounded on the frame right by the fuel pump. >> >> the ecu supplies ground to the FP relay to energize that relay. >> Switching can take place in the power or ground side of any DC circuit .. >> horns for example, typically a switched on in the ground side of the >> circuit. > |
