The exhaust cycle in the cylinder creates positive and negative waves that when timed properly with the length of pipe will actually draw out more exhaust and create a vacuum to pull in additional fuel. That is why some people shorten or extend exhaust pipes an inch or so on racing cars. I think Scott will loose power and fuel economy pulling a trailer with an extended tail pipe for this reason (all though not EXCLUSIVELY for this reason.) ed- 91 DoKa, not modified for track racing.
