A problem with multi-gas detectors is that the best location for a detector depends on the gas. E.g., propane is heavy so the propane detector needs to be on the floor, but you want the CO detector at eye-level.

You can get propane detectors that come with a valve you install on your external tank to actually shutoff the propane supply in case of a leak. We have one of these installed, here's a photo: http://people.cs.uchicago.edu/~wes/vanpics/closeup.jpg

With the switch in the off position, the alarm is off and propane is shutoff at the tank. When the switch is in the on position, the external valve opens and the alarm arms. If it detects propane the valve closes and the alarm sounds.
