Right. I just don't think those particular flaps need to have any at all, that its major function is to make them quieter when they slam shut. Anyway, I didn't notice any loss of flow or any whistling noises after firmly rubbing all the loose residue off at least two sets of them. But the slapping noise when you suddenly turned the fan to max might have been a bit more pronounced. Which was fine with me, I like being able to hear them when I want to.
